GBA is headquartered in Tampa, FL with offices located along the east, west and gulf coasts to provide nationwide capabilities. Hudson Engineers, Inc. joined forces to create an alliance to provide the marine industry with expanded capacity and expertise to meet increasing demands and more complex projects.
Position Summary:
GBA is seeking a self-motivated Civil | Coastal Engineer to join our team in our Baltimore, MD or Houston, TX office. Multiple candidates may be selected for the position. The selected candidate will be expected to work in both the field and the office. This is a hybrid role with some flexibility for remote work. Relocation to the Baltimore or Houston metro area is a requirement. The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US.
Responsibilities:
- Support project teams in the design and oversight of civil and coastal projects for local, state, and federal clients along the Atlantic Coast with a focus on the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Assist with design tasks (including CAD work, quantity & cost estimates, permit applications, technical specifications, drawing preparation, and report writing).
- Assist with field activities (including topographic & hydrographic surveying, material sampling & testing, field studies, and construction oversight & inspection).
- Assist in writing, preparation, and review of technical reports and project documents.
- Responsible for personal task management and adherence to deadlines and scope.
Required Skills & Duties:
- Must have the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-production office environment, build successful team relationships and maintain positive coworker interactions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team.
- Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
- Travel (between 10% to 25%) should be expected based on project-specific requirements (i.e., client meetings, site visits, field investigations, hydrographic surveys, beach nourishment, inspections, etc.)
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, coastal, or ocean) or closely related discipline from an accredited program. Master’s degree a plus.
- Possession of or ability to sit for Engineer-in-Training (EIT) exam.
- All applicants must either have or be able to acquire a TWIC Card.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with programs such as AutoCAD Civil3D, HyPack, Pix4D, Global Mapper or similar are a plus.
- Experience in civil or coastal projects in some or all the following areas a plus:
- Contract Documents - including preparation of design plans, technical specifications, engineer’s cost estimate, etc.
- Navigation and Dredging Engineering - including design of ship channels, turning basins, berthing areas, new work and maintenance dredging projects, channel shoaling studies, etc.
- Dredged Material Management Options - including innovative reuse, beneficial use, confined aquatic disposal, wetland/marsh restoration & creation, beach nourishment, etc.
- Geotechnical Engineering - including subsurface investigations, dredged material containment facility (DMCF) dike design, slope stability analysis, soil properties and behavior, borrow suitability, etc.
- Coastal Engineering – shoreline protection analyses and design including breakwaters, jetties, armoring and protected dike embankments.
- Hydrographic surveying - including single beam, multi-beam, side scan, magnetometer, sub-bottom, geophysical etc.
